3 Season Ends In Regional For Leafs
Team
takes eighth place in Michigan; Saunders runs on sore
feet

womens cross country season ended this weekend
at the NAIA Region VIII Championships at Elia Sharp
Park in Jackson, Michigan. The squads eighth
place finish was not enough to continue the season
after regional competition.
Sophomore All-Amercian Heidi Saunders led Goshen with a12th place finish
at a time of 19:03, despite nursing stress fractures in both of her
feet. Saunders did not run last weekend in Kentucky. Teammate and junior
Jennifer Hostetler said, It was amazing that Heidi ran at all.
Freshman Melissa Lehman finished 25h, while junior Tricia Kurtz scored
her best time of the season, finishing 54th with a time of 20:19.
Indiana Wesleyan took home team medallist honors at the meet, while
Danielle Vohs of Huntington won the individual trophy with a time of
18:12.

Versailes, KY Running without their sophomore All-American
Heidi Saunders, the Goshen College womens cross country
team took home a 16th place finish at the 24-team Southeastern
Classic Saturday.
Saunders, who has been nursing stress fractures in her feet, did not run
in the 5K race at Georgetown College. Picking up the load was freshman
Melissa Lehman, who ran a time of 20:07 en route to a 33rd individual finish.
Junior Tricia Kurtz was next to cross the line for the Leafs, finishing
at 64th at a 20:55 clip. Sophomore Charity Brubaker and junior Lindsae
Rhoades finished within three seconds of each other at 21:02 and 21:05.
Those times were good enough for 72nd and 75th place, respectively.
Indiana Wesleyan took home the first place team finish at the meet. Danielle
Vosh, Huntington College, won the individual competition with a time of
18:29.

13 Women Can't Post Best Times In Wisconsin

the Goshen College womens cross country team did
not put up its best finish of the year this weekend at
the University of Wisconsin Parkside Invitational, it
was able to take home a 17th place finish out of 30 teams.
Not one individual from the Leafs ran their best time of the season Saturday.
The rain and fog contributed to slower scores: All-American sophomore
Heidi Saunders added 42 seconds to her time from last weeks Goshen
College Invite. She still paced the Leafs, finishing 36th out of 325
runners with a time of 19:42. Freshman Melissa Lehman took home 83rd
place at a 20:31 clip.
Facing schools from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, Goshen defeated conference
rivals Taylor and Bethel. Indiana State University took home the team
first place trophy, while Eszter Erdelyi from Central Methodist finished
first in the individual meet. Erdelyi ran a clip of 18:19 to take home
medallist honors.

Goshen, IN It wasnt a course record, but it
didnt have to be. Sophomore Heidi Saunders paced Goshen
to a second place team finish in the four school, Goshen
College-Ponderosa Invite Saturday, finishing the 5K event
with a time of 19 minutes flat.
Saunders, who holds the Goshen course record at 18:46, beat second place
Lauren Puretz of Kalamazoo College by 25 seconds.
Goshen was also paced by freshman Melissa Lehman, who finished eighth with
a time of 20 minutes flat. Junior Tricia Kurtz took 10th at 20:23 and sophomore
Charity Brubaker finished 13th at 20:45.
Goshen had a team score of 46, second only to Kalamazoo at 34.

29 Saunders Sets Course Record At Wesleyan

Marion, IN It was a
perfect day to run mid 60 degree temperature, a
warm sunshine with a slight breeze. Sophomore Heidi Saunders
took advantage of these conditions and shattered the course
record at Indiana Wesleyan Saturday en route to a first
place finish at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. Her
time of 18:39 snipped nearly 30 seconds off the old record.
Saunders' push gave the Goshen team a collective second place finish, behind
only host Indiana Wesleyan. The Leafs took a total time of 1:42:06, with
an average time of 20:25.2. Wesleyan kept a 19:38.2 team pace.
Also finishing strong for Goshen were freshman Melissa Lehman in 16th place,
junior Trisha Kurtz in 20th and sophomore Charity Brubaker in 23rd.

than perfect day for running makes for slower times

and humid conditions, the womens cross country team
could not reproduce the times they had one week ago, and
settled for eighth in the Taylor Invitational Saturday.
Sophomore Heidi Saunders took fourth place in the event, but her time of
19:44 was a bit slower than her performance last week. Also making a surge
for Goshen were junior Lindsae Rhodes at 37th and Tricia Kurtz at 39th.
Huntington took the team trophy at the meet, while the University of Indianapolis Maria
Harriman took first place in the individuals. She finished with a time
of 19:18.

College finished third in the Defiance College Invitational
Saturday. Leading the Leafs in the 5K event was sophomore
Heidi Saunders, who finished in second place with a time
of 19:21. Not far behind was freshman Melissa Lehman in
third, with a time of 19:55.
This is the best start weve had since I came to Goshen, head
coach Phil Hostetler said. Im very pleased.
