COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Goshen College volleyball program continues to position itself for a strong showing in the Mid-Central Conference as they announced the signing of Colorado standout Indigo "Indy" Miller today.
Miller, a three-year letterman at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs becomes the second student-athlete to sign a national letter of intent for the 2008 season, following six-foot outside hitter Katelyn Yoder of Mason, Mich. (click here for related article).
A captain for the Spartans as a senior in 2007, Miller helped Doherty to a pair of 5A – large school classification with schools of enrollment over 1,400 – top ten finishes in the state in her tenure.
"Her strong high school experience, playing front and back row, has prepared her for play at this level," explains Maple Leafs Head Coach Jewel Lehman. "We are eager to see what contributions she will make on the court this coming fall."
Finishing her senior season second on the Spartans with 183 kills, Miller hit for an outstanding 27% clip from the outside. Her well-balanced game on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball – Miller was third on her team with 200 digs – was rewarded with All Conference recognition in both her junior and senior seasons.
"There is no doubt that Indy will enrich the team experience with her positive demeanor," adds Lehman of Miller, who also played two years of varsity tennis at Doherty. "As she adjusts to the college game, her leadership skills will make a difference on the court."
Those leadership skills extend far beyond the volleyball court for Miller. In addition to being part of the National Honor Society throughout high school, Miller has taught youth camps, been on church worship teams, and served on numerous community service projects. Miller is currently the President and Founder of the "Treehuggers' Society," a group that develops corporate sponsors for recycling containers and supervises recycling efforts at Doherty High School.
"The broader college community will benefit from Indy's gifts as well because she is the type of person who will get involved, taking advantage many opportunities across campus," adds Lehman.
"I choose Goshen because of its academic standards and its small Christ-centered community," said Miller of choosing Goshen to continue her athletic and academic career, "I can't wait to meet a large variety of people and become an active apart of the Goshen community!"
