FEB 2 — Groundhog Sees Maple Leafs Win Twice

Houser and Kronk Victorious at Taylor Invitational

Upland, IN – The Goshen College women's track and field team didn't get the word that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and their would be six more weeks of winter. The Lady Maple Leafs again ignored the cold and heated up the indoor track at the Taylor University Invite in Upland on Saturday.

Only one thing was on the minds of the Maple Leafs on Groundhog Day was leaving the competition to deal with their shadows.

Abri Houser and Deanne Kronk did just that as they led the women's team with victories in their events. Houser, a junior from Newton, Kansas, hit the NAIA national provisional qualifying mark in both the trials and finals of the 55-meter hurdles. Her finals time of 8.72 seconds was the only finals time under the nine second mark.

Kronk showed her strength with a victory in her first shot put competition of the season with a mark of 39'8." The North Wood High School product has owned the event at the Taylor Invite, winning the shot put for the third straight year. The junior also had a very strong third-place finish in the weight throw with a forty-seven foot throw.

Rounding out the field events for the Maple Leafs was freshman Fairfield High School graduate Kelsey Herschberger who took third in the high jump with a 4'10" mark.

Sophomore Racheal Baker made her presence felt with a pair of sixth-place finishes in mid-distance events. She finished the mile with a time of 5:39.34, while posting a 3:18.23 in the 1000-meter event.

The women's track and field team is back in action when they travel to the Anderson Invitational on Saturday.
