Record Paces Leafs At Frozen Forest

leads limited squad with record-setting
weight throw at Huntington |
Huntington, IN — With Goshen’s
spring break beginning on Saturday, head track coach Rick Clark
took only a limited number of athletes with him to the Huntington
College Frozen Forest Invitational. Despite it being a smaller
van-load over to the Mid-Central Conference rival institution,
Goshen provided some impressive results, led by junior Rachel Yantzi’s
record-setting mark in the weight throw.
Yantzi broke her old school mark of 39 feet, 6 inches with a toss
of 41 feet, 7 inches on Saturday, garnering first place in the
event as well. Yantzi set the old mark at the Maple Leaf Invitational
on Feb. 4. Saturday at Huntington, she was able to add a full two
feet to that mark.
“Rachel had a couple really good efforts today, and any time
you can add to an existing record it’s a great accomplishment,” said
Rick Clark, Goshen head coach.
Yantzi’s performance highlighted a solid day turned in by
senior Ventisha Conolly, who finished third in both the shot put
(30 feet, 4 inches) and the weight throw (34 feet, 10 inches) event.
Freshman Carly Feldman took first place in the shot put, garnering
a length of 32 feet, 11 inches on her heave.
“Since we have just started spring break, we only took a
partial team to this meet,” Clark said. “This
concludes the team portion of our indoor track season.”
Goshen finished fourth out of five competing teams at the meet.
Team scoring finished at Huntington College, 72.5 points; Marian
College, 41 points; Trinity Christian College, 33 points; Goshen,
29 points; Tri-State University, 11.5 points.
Goshen will next compete in the NAIA Indoor National Championship
next weekend. Sophomore Petrana Petkova will be the lone female
participant for the Leafs at the national event. For more information
