Upland, IN — With 11 schools
and over 400 athletes competing at Saturday’s Taylor University
Invitational, it was Goshen sophomore Petrana Petkova that
again grabbed the spotlight, taking first in the 3,000-meter run
in a time of 10:42.43.
Petkova’s most recent clip was not close to her school-record
10:28.78 that she set at this season’s Maple Leaf Invitational
on Feb. 4, but it didn’t have to be. Petkova finished 18
seconds before the next closest competitor at Taylor’s meet,
giving her a total of three first-place finishes in two different
events on the young season.
“Our women’s team showed good improvement and were
led by Petrana Petkova’s victory in the 3,000-meter run,” said
Rick Clark, Goshen head coach. “She held the lead for most
all of the race and was never seriously challenged.”
Petkova was backed by a strong performance in the weight throw
by junior Rachel Yantzi and an impressive display in the triple
jump by freshman Lindsy Glick. Both took eighth-place honors in
their respective events, with Yantzi generating a distance of 38
feet in the weight throw and Glick leaping a total 30 feet, 9 inches
in the triple jump.
Goshen finished in ninth-place among the 11 teams at the event
with 14 team points in 18 scored events. For a complete list of

The squad will next travel to the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday.
