APR. 2 — Leafs Battle Windy Conditions; Finish Seventh
Weather conditions make competition difficult; Williams has strong showing
Anderson, IN — The Goshen College track and field team traveled to Anderson University on Saturday for the Runners Forum Invitational. Not only were they facing ten other teams, but also had to take on extreme wind and cool weather.

Despite the cold conditions and wind the women battled to finish ahead of four other teams. Junior Erin Williams led Goshen in the meet. She raced to a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (:16.82), and also finished third in the pole vault with a vault of 8 feet. Sophomore Lindsy Glick was able to clear 7 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault for a sixth place finish. Williams and Glick joined juniors Rachel Yantzi and Tara Plank for a fifth place finish in the 4X4 Relay (4:43.29).

"Competitive conditions were very difficult because of the extreme windy conditions,” said head Coach Rick Clark. “Erin Williams, Laura Herr and Ventisha Conolly were the women’s team leaders today. We were pleased with today’s performances with the weather conditions.”

Sophomore Laura Herr had a strong showing in the 5, 000 meter run with a fourth place finish (20:13.70). “Laura ran an extremely intelligent race in the 5, 000, running in a pack that she outkicked in the last stretch,” said Clark.

In the field events Senior Ventisha Conolly led the Leafs with a third place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 108 feet, 9 inches. “Ventisha is throwing very well in the hammer throw right now and was able to get a much needed third place finish, for us” said Clark. Freshman Cally Feldman brought home a fifth place finish in the hammer with a throw of 102 feet, 4 inches.

Goshen finished seventh with 29 total points. Anderson University won the event with 134 points, while Earlham College finished second (90), Bellarmine University third (82), Rose Hulman Institute of Technology fourth (77), Manchester College fifth (67), Knox College sixth (51.5), College of Mt. St. Joseph eighth (19), Hanover College ninth (18), Grace College tenth (8.5), and Tri-State University eleventh (7).

Goshen will next participate in the Little State Championships on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9. That event will be held in Indianapolis, IN.
