FEB 23 — Maple Leafs Compete at Final Indoor Meet of Season

Squad will now battle cold to prep for outdoor events

WEST LAFAYETTE , Ind. – With six inches of snow covering the ground on the campus of Purdue University it did not seem like it should be the final indoor meet of the year for the Goshen College men's track and field team.

However, that was the case as a partial team participated in the Boilermaker Invite in West Lafayette, Indiana on Saturday.

Senior Justin Hochstetler led the Maple Leafs, throwing a personal-best of 48'10 1/4" in the weight throw to place fifth. The Orrville, Ohio native also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 41' 8 1/2". Brother Jeff Hochstetler finished right behind him with a throw of 36' 4 1/4", which was good for fifth.

Jake Gillette led the distance crew with a second-place effort in the mile run in a time of 4:43.71. The senior from Niles, Michigan also earned a fifth-place finish in the 3000-meters finishing in 9:24.84 later in the day.

Fairfield High School graduate Nick Adkins also placed in the mile and the 3000-meters. The senior finished fourth in the mile (4:49.86) and sixth in the 3000-meters (9:40.27).

Rounding out the men's team was sophomore Nick Bouwman with third place in the mile (4:46.31) and freshman Jon Miller, who finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.79 seconds.

The Maple Leaf men are officially done with the indoor season and will begin to train for the outdoor season upon their return from semester break.
