Upland, IN – The Goshen College men's track team spent Groundhogs Day trying to cast its shadow on the competition as they took part in the Taylor University Invite in Upland on Saturday.
Maple Leaf throwers and distance runners have been warming up for some time time and the work is paying off in quality results.
Saturday's meet featured partial teams from eighteen institutions, including eight of the nine Mid-Central Collegiate Conference members.
Again it was the distance runners that made the biggest splash on the competition. The distance medley relay team ran to a finish of 11:19.0. The time gave Nick Bouwman, Tyler Keller, Randy Keener, and Jake Gilletter a solid fourth-place finish.
Brothers Justin and Jeff Hochstetler led the Maple Leafs' throwers by finishing fifth and seventh respectvely in the weight throw. Justin's mark of 47'3" came within inches of his personal best, while Jeff's 46'7" throw shattered his personal record by nearly four feet.
Junior Brent Handsfield, a Turks and Caicos Islands native, placed fifth in the triple-jump with a mark of 38'7 1/4." Also placing for the Maple Leafs were Tyler Keller in the high jump and Paul Versluis in the long jump. Keller's jump of 5'8" was good for eighth place and Versluis locked up seventh place with a mark of 19' 5 1/2."
The men's track and field team now heads to Anderson to compete in the Anderson Invite this Saturday. |
