MARION, Ind. – Led by the distance runners once again, the Goshen College men’s track and field team finished fourth at the Indiana Wesleyan University Invite in Marian on Saturday.
Finishing in second place for the second straight week, the distance medley relay team of Nick Bouwman, Jon Miller, Randy Keener, and Ben Bouwman came in with a solid finishing time of 11:05.55. A week ago they came within two seconds of breaking the school record at the Anderson Invite (click here for related article).
The Maple Leafs also finished strong in the 5000-meters, garnering second and third-place finishes. Senior Jake Gillette led the way coming in second with a time of 16:15.10. Fellow senior, and Fairfield High School grad, Nick Adkins followed right behind him with a time of 16:49.92, which was good for third.
In the 4x400 relay, David Horst, Jon Miller, Paul Versluis, and John Tamirat ran a combined 3:40.11 and grabbed third place for Goshen. The Maple Leafs tallied 78 points as a team to finish behind host Indiana Wesleyan, Lindenwood, and Taylor.
Turning in another consistent performance in the weight throw, brothers Justin and Jeff Hochstetler grabbed third and fifth-place, respectively. Justin’s throw of 48’9” was good for third place and was his best of the 2008 season so far. The Hochstetler’s also placed fifth and sixth place in the shot put.
Junior Brent Handfield placed fourth in both of his jumping events as he launched himself 20’ ¾” in the long jump and 40’1 ¾” in the triple jump. Rounding out the day for Goshen was fifth and sixth-place finishes by Luis Robledo (12’6”) and Jon Casselberry-Scott (12’) in the pole vault.
