Upland, IN — With just seven days remaining until the only home
indoor meet of the season, the Goshen College men’s track and field
squad sent a variety of athletes to the Taylor University Invite this Saturday.
And while the women’s side was setting various school records (click
here for article), the men’s side put forth a solid showing as well,
though no records were broken. For head coach Rick Clark, it was a good
outing for both sides with the Maple Leaf Invite approaching next Friday.
“We had a very productive meet at Taylor on Saturday with three
school records established on the women’s side — four if you
count Petkova’s Friday at I.U. — but our men were solid as
well,” Clark said. “At this point, it’s all about improving,
and we were able to do that in a lot of events.”
Seniors Don Williams and Tolu Kayode led the way for the men
at Taylor, with Williams finishing fourth in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches)
and fifth in the 55-meter high hurdles (:08.54). Kayode, meanwhile, garnered
second place in the 35-pound weight throw, hurling the object a distance
of 50 feet, 8 inches, just 1 foot, 4 inches short of his automatic qualifying
toss of 52 feet on Jan. 21 (click here for article).
“Tolu and Don put forth some impressive showings again,” Clark
said. “Tolu
keeps flirting with the NAIA qualifying mark and is working
hard to better himself.”
Junior Jason Young also posted a top-five finish in the 600-meter
run, clocking in a fourth-place time of 1:24.69.
Goshen took a total 13 athletes to the event. Complete meet
results are available by clicking here.
The Leafs will next host the Maple Leaf Invite, as Mid-Central
Conference rival Bethel College and Tri-State University will visit the
Roman Gingerich Center Friday evening. Field events are set for 5:15 p.m.,
with running events to begin at approximately 7 p.m.
