26 — Limited Squad Brings Home Big Results
Goshen
takes partial team to Frozen Forest Invite
to conclude indoor season |
Huntington, IN — With Goshen’s spring break beginning on Saturday,
head track coach Rick Clark took only a limited number of athletes with him
to the Huntington College Frozen Forest Invitational. Despite it being a
smaller van-load over to the Mid-Central Conference rival institution, Goshen
provided some impressive results, gathering four first place finishes and
three runner-ups on the afternoon.
Junior Dan Adcock led the way for the Leafs by finishing first
in both the long jump (19 feet, 5 inches) and the triple jump (38 feet, 5
inches). Adcock was also part of the 4 X 2 lap relay team that finished second
in a time of 3:01.08 as senior Jim Whitaker and sophomores Dom Fultz and
Jason Young completed the four-man team.
Whitaker also grabbed a first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles
in a time of :08.38 while Young finished first in the 300-meter dash in a
clip of :37.67. Senior Tolu Kayode, in his final intercollegiate prep for
NAIA national competition, took home a second-place finish in the weight
throw with a toss of 51 feet, 7 inches. His shot put distance of 41 feet,
6 inches was second-best on the day as well.
“Since we have just started spring break, we only took a partial
team to this meet,” said Rick Clark, Goshen head coach. “This
concludes the team portion of our indoor track season.”
Goshen finished
third out of five competing teams at the meet. Team scoring finished at Tri-State
University, 71.5 points; Marian College, 56.5 points; Goshen, 42 points;
Huntington College, 32 points; Trinity Christian College, 15 points.
Goshen will take Kayode, junior Matt Hochstetler and senior Justin
Gillette to the NAIA Indoor National Championships next weekend, as Hochstetler
will join Kayode in the weight throw competition while Gillette will compete
in the 3,000-meter run. For more information on the national championships,
