West Lafayette, IN — The glamour of NCAA Division I athletics did little
to intimidate the Goshen College men’s track team on Saturday, as the
Leafs took several first-place finishes at the Purdue University
Boilermaker Invitational in addition to a new school record
set in the 3,000-meter run.
Senior Justin Gillette cruised to a time of 8:57.98 in that event,
smashing Goshen’s old record time of 9:01.14 set by Geoff Douglas in
1991. Gillette’s time was also good enough to qualifying him for NAIA
National Championships later in March, joining senior Tolu Kayode and junior
Matt Hochstetler (weight throw) as qualifiers for the Leafs thus far.
“Justin ran very well, and his time was the fist sub-nine minute
time in program history,” said Rick Clark, Goshen head coach. “I’m
sure he is pleased to be going to nationals again, and will do
his best to make the most of the opportunity in the coming weeks.”
Gillette’s accomplishment was backed by another strong performance
turned in by junior Dan Adcock, as he took first in both the long jump (19
feet, 1 inch) and the triple jump (39 feet, 10 inches). Junior Don Williams
took third place in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches, while
sophomore Dominic Fultz placed third in the 600-meter run (1:31.60). Freshman
Nick Adkins rounded off the list of top three finishes for Goshen, taking
third place in the mile run in a time of 4:34.72.
Goshen competed against teams from Purdue University, Indiana-Purdue
University Fort Wayne and a numerous amount of unattached participants. For

Goshen will next travel to Mid-Central Conference foe Huntington
College for the annual Frozen Forest Invitational on Saturday.
