Anderson, IN — The Goshen College track and field team traveled
to Anderson University on Saturday for the Runners Forum Invitational.
Not only
were they facing ten other teams, but also had to take on extreme
wind and cool weather.
Despite the wind, the men were able to capture a second place
finish in the field of 11 teams. The men were led by Sophomore Jason Young
with two first place finishes. He won the 200-meter dash (:22.44) and the
400-meter run (:53.47). Also with a first place finish was Junior Don Williams
in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.38). Williams also had a second place high
jump finish with a leap of 6 feet. Junior Daniel Constantine was not far
behind Young in the 200-meter dash, finishing second (:23.03).
Young and Constantine joined senior Jim Whitaker and Junior Dan
Adcock to take home second place in the 4 X 400 relay (3:35.62). That group
also grabbed third place in the 4 X 100 relay (:45.39).
"Competitive conditions were very difficult because of the extreme
windy conditions. Even with this we were very pleased with out
Men’s
team runner-up finish,” said head coach Rick Clark. “Jason Young,
Matt Hochstetler and Don Williams led the team’s performances. Young
Continued to excel in the sprints with a double win in the
200 and 400. Williams had a decisive victory in the high hurdles
and lost only by a tie-breaker
in the high jump.”
Junior Matt Hochstetler led the way in the field events with
strong throws in both the discus and hammer. Hochstetler finished second
in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, 2 inches. He had a toss of 131 feet,
3 inches in the hammer for a fourth place finish.
"Hochstetler had his best performances of the outdoor season
with a solid second place toss in the discus and continued that solid
performance in the hammer,” said Clark.
Sophomore Sam Moyer finished fourth in the pole vault with
a clearing of 9 feet, 6 inches. Adcock also had a fourth place finish in
the
triple jump (38’ 10 1/4”).
Goshen finished second place with 90.83 total points. Anderson
University won the event with 178 points, while Earlham College
finished third (62.33), Bellarmine University fourth(55.33),
