30 — Goshen Can't Get Things Going Against Grace

Goshen, IN — After Game Two was
suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning due to darkness more
than a week ago, on March 22, the Leafs were finally able to finish
the final two and one-half innings of their night-cap versus Grace.
In Game One back on the 22nd, Goshen couldn’t seem to get
things going, offensively or defensively. The first batter up for
Grace was able to send the second pitch into right field for a
double. However, freshman pitcher Tera Brackman was able to collect
herself, striking out the next batter and forcing two more to pop
out. Despite giving up two walks in the second inning the Leafs'
defense was able to hold the Lancers scoreless.
Meanwhile, on the offensive side, Goshen was unable to score themselves.
A Goshen error in the third inning would allow Grace to get their
first run, while the Leafs still only sent three batters to the
plate, only to see each of them return to the dugout, unable to
get a base runner.
Grace would go on to score five more runs in the final four innings.
Senior Alissa Kostyk collected Goshen’s only hit of the game
in the bottom of the seventh inning when she sent the ball to shallow
left field for a single.
With Game Two starting behind schedule and darkness quickly approaching
game officials knew there was a possibility the game would not
be completed. In the bottom of the fifth inning that is exactly
what happened. The game would be suspended with Goshen down 0-6.
The two teams would have to wait more than a week before the Lancers
would travel back to Goshen to complete the final two and one half
innings of the game.
After giving up six runs in the first five innings, Goshen held
grace to just one more run on the evening. Unfortunately they were
unable to score themselves, making the final score 0-7, Grace.
The Leafs will next travel to Concordia University Thursday, March
31. Game One is set to begin at 3 p.m.
