APR. 2 — Marian Able To Get By Goshen In Game Two 4-5
After losing 0-5 in Game One, Leafs battle back late in Game Two but fall short
Goshen, IN — After being postponed last Saturday due to snow and rain, the Leafs traveled to Marian College Monday April, 4 to play in beautiful weather conditions. Trying to capture their elusive first win, they fell just short in Game Two after battling back in the sixth and seventh innings.

Game One started off much like many others have this season. Goshen was able to hold Marian scoreless through two innings, but was also unable to score themselves. Marian got things rolling with two doubles and two Goshen errors. The Knights scored three runs in the inning. It looked as though the Leafs might also get something going in the inning as senior Tara Haynes was able to lead off by drawing a walk and freshman Erica Weaver moved her to second with a sacrifice fly. However, that was all the offense they could generate that inning. Marian would score two more runs in the fifth inning, making the final 0-5.

In Game Two Marian scored a run in both the second and third innings, and three in the fourth making a comeback seem distant for the Leafs. However, Haynes was able to lead off the fifth inning with a single. Weaver followed her with a single of her own and then freshman Erin Layman moved them around to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Faith Borrell collected an RBI by knocking in Haynes with a single to center field, closing the gap to a 1-5 score.

Freshman Brandie Dalton was hit by a pitch in on the first pitch of the sixth inning. Sophomore Stacie Scott got a single with her hit to shallow left field and Haynes followed with a bunt single giving Weaver the opportunity to push some runs across the plate as she came up to bat with bases loaded. She was able to capitalize on that opportunity with a base-clearing double. Goshen had battled back making the score 4-5 heading in to the seventh inning. Unfortunately Marian was able to retire the first three Goshen batters of the seventh, meaning Goshen would not get another chance to prolong the game.

Goshen will next travel to Bethel College on Tuesday to take on the Pilots. Game time is set to begin at 3 p.m.
