GOSHEN, Ind. – Months removed from a heart-breaking loss in the Mid-Central College semifinals, Goshen College head men's soccer coach has begun to add to his roster in hopes of returning to the NAIA national tournament.
Mounsithiraj took a major step towards that goal this week with the signing of Bethany Christian High School standout Lewis Caskey.
"This is an exciting time for GC soccer to have Lewis coming to Goshen College and to play soccer on our men's side," Mounsithiraj said. "Caskey is such a great all-around player with good instincts for the game."
A three-year varsity player for the Bruins, Caskey helped Bethany to its first ever sectional title in soccer in 2006. He will join former high school teammate Martin Brubaker who will be a junior at Goshen in the fall.
"Lewis has the ability to help us anywhere on the field with his quickness, one-on-one defensive skills, passing, and field vision," Mounsithiraj explained.
Primarily a defender for the Bruins, Caskey has been named to the all conference team twice as well as serving as the team captain and being voted Best Defensive Player.
"Caskey is a great leader on and off the field," said high school coach Hank Willem. "As a player, he is very quick on the ball, has the ability to shut down opponents with his defensive skills, and can play anywhere on the field."
A standout off the field as well, Caskey is ranked in the top 15 in his graduating class. He will be following his parents, Jim and Lisa, who are both graduates of Goshen College.
"Not only is Lewis a good soccer player, but he is also a very intelligent kid," Mounsithiraj added. "I am so happy that he has decided to come to Goshen College and be a part of our soccer program."
