MAY 20 — Goshen Steals Two-Sport Star Stormy Holder

Holder to play basketball and softball for the Maple Leafs

GOSHEN, Ind. — A storm is coming.  Fortunately, this storm is on the Maple Leafs side.

Stormy Holder, a two-sport standout from Anderson Highland High School (Anderson, Ind.) has signed a national letter of intent to continue her basketball, softball, and academic careers at Goshen College as announced by head basketball coach Steve Wiktorowski on Monday.

“We are very excited about Stormy committing to Goshen College and she should have an immediate impact on both our basketball and softball programs,’ explained Wiktorowski of Holder, who was recently named Anderson Highland Female Athlete of the Year.

“I was attracted to Goshen College because of their very strong, established nursing program and also the incredible team chemistry I felt when getting to play with some of the girls from the basketball team,” explained Holder of her decision.  “Goshen has everything I ant in a college and seems to fit me very well.  I am very excited about this upcoming year.”

Actually a three-sport star at Anderson Highland, Holder was also named All-Conference twice in volleyball.  A four-time team MVP for the Lady Scots in basketball, Holder was twice named to the all-county team.  As a senior, she displayed versatility and athleticism as she averaged a team-high 10.95 points to go with 7 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game.

“We really wanted a big shooting-guard and at 5’10”, she has great versatility and can play several positions on offense,” added Wiktorowski.  “Her potential really stood out to me at a tryout camp in Indianapolis and we are fortunate to get someone with her ability this late in the year.  Her ability to shoot, pass, and handle the ball will help open things up for the post game. As the daughter of a coach, she has a good feel for the game, makes good decisions and is a competitor”

On the softball field, Holder’s reputation is just as strong.  Holder has been named team captain, all-conference, and all county in each of her three seasons of high school softball.

“She has been all-conference in both sports, having played shortstop in high school and is known to have a great throwing arm,” said Wiktorowski.

Holder’s stats will show that you can add an outstanding bat to her defensive prowess, making her a complete player.  Holder boasts a career batting average of over .400 and an on-base percentage of well over .500.  The soon-to-be Maple Leaf has averaged 22 runs, 32 hits, and 18 RBIs over the past three seasons.

The list of off the court/ field honors for Holder is just as staggering as she has been nominated and selected into the Youth Leadership Academy of Madison County in 2007, inducted into the National Honor Society, named prom queen, been included in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, and won several scholarships for her athletic and academic careers.  Holder will graduate shortly with a G.P.A of over 4.0 and is ranked in the top 20 of a graduating class of over 300.

“She will be a great fit not only with her athletic ability, but she is a great student and leader, and is a person of high character,” adds Wiktorowski.  “She is the kind of role model student-athlete that we really covet and we all look forward to having Stormy join our programs in the fall.”
