SIOUX CITY, Iowa. – The Goshen College women's basketball team racked up another impressive award as senior Katie Sowers was selected as a Daktronics-NAIA All American Scholar Athlete.
The awards were announced as part of the 17th Annual NAIA DII National Championships held in Sioux City, Iowa. In order to be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have achieved at least junior status and maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Sowers becomes the 12th Goshen athlete to earn the recognition for the 2007-08 school year.
Just two weeks ago, the Hesston, Kansas native was selected to the Mid-Central Conference All Academic Team. Sowers finished her two-year career as a Maple Leaf averaging 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds on the court as a senior.
Goshen finished the season 11-19 (5-11 MCC) and lost in the first-round of the MCC Tournament to top-seed Bethel College. Bethel and Indiana Wesleyan represented the MCC in the National Tournament with Indiana Wesleyan falling in the opening round and Bethel finishing its season in the Elite Eight.
