GOSHEN, Ind. – This Saturday, February 23rd, the Goshen College women’s basketball team will celebrate “Think Pink Day” during their final home game against Marian College to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
More than 1,100 college teams nationwide have participated in the initiative instituted by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). According to the WBCA, participation has grown from 120 schools in 2007 to over a thousand, including multiple sports, this year.
Fans are asked to wear something pink or bring a pink colored item with them to the game on the campus of Goshen College. Those fans will be admitted into the game for free with a $2 donation. All proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research.
The Maple Leafs took part in “Think Pink Day” at Taylor University last Saturday, February 16th. The event featured several breast cancer survivors, including Phyllis Bedi – wife of Taylor provost Stephen Bedi – and the mother of current Goshen basketball student-athlete Lindsay Gangloff.
“How rivals have come together to support this cause is another example of the NAIA’s Champions of Character program,” explains Goshen College Head Coach Steve Wiktorowski. “Find something pink to bring and come support the Lady Maple Leafs and breast cancer research.”
