FEB. 9 — Fairfield High Star Gangloff Transfers To Goshen
5-8 swing elects to leave Manchester; will officially join Leafs in '07-'08

Goshen, IN — The Goshen College women’s basketball program announced Friday that Manchester College freshman and former Fairfield High School standout Lindsay Gangloff has transferred to Goshen as of this semester, officially joining the Leafs’ basketball program for the 2007-2008 season.

Gangloff, who appeared in six contests at Manchester this season, transferred to Goshen at the semester break. Sitting out the remainder of the 2006-2007 season by NCAA bylaws, Gangloff will be a member of the Goshen College squad next season.

Gangloff has attended classes at Goshen since the start of the second semester, and has been practicing with the team.

“We are very happy that Lindsay has decided to transfer and play for us at Goshen College,” said Steve Wiktorowski, Goshen head coach. “We recruited her in high school and believe her best days are yet ahead of her. She is an outstanding young lady, a very good student, and has a great feel for the game. She has come in and picked up our system very quickly and we really look forward to when she can actually play for us next year. ”

A multi-talented, 5-8 swing player, Gangloff led Fairfield to a 13-8 record as a senior, charting a team-best 15.9 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game. She dished out 3.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in her senior season, and was twice named to the All-Northeast Corner Conference team. Gangloff was also named to the Goshen News All-Area team in 2005-2006 and was selected to play in the Sunburst All-Star game in South Bend this past summer.

At Manchester, Gangloff appeared in six contests, going four for five from the field in averaging 1.3 points per game. Gangloff’s best outing came against Tri-State University on Dec. 16, where she scored four points and recorded a steal in a 77-64 Lady Spartans’ win.

“Lindsay has been well coached, is fundamentally sound and we believe will make an immediate contribution because of learning how to play with our other young players this semester,” Wiktorowski said. “I believe that all her local fans will really enjoy watching her play at the next level.”

Gangloff cited a yearning to be closer to home in her transfer decision, though familiarity with the Goshen basketball program was present: Gangloff said Wiktorowski and staff did a great job recruiting her during her final prep season, but it was her thoughts about attending a nearby college that pushed her toward Manchester. After just a semester away, she said she had changed her opinions.

“My decision to attend Goshen College was a decision that I thought I would never have to make,” Gangloff said. “I only saw the college from the outside looking in, but now that I am attending, I am beginning to see what Goshen College is all about. This college has such a large diversity of people and cultures, and that is one reason that allows Goshen to stand out among other colleges. An extra bonus for attending Goshen College is that I can live at home and still have the opportunity to play college basketball. Goshen is a great college and the basketball team has a lot of really awesome girls, and I'm excited to see what comes of the years ahead.”
