NOV. 22 — McDugle Nabs MCC Player Of The Week Honor
Senior averages 24.7 points per game in leading Leafs to 2-1 week
Indianapolis, IN — Mid-Central Conference 2003-2004 Player of the Year Erin McDugle received her first honor of the 2004-2005 season Monday, taking the MCC’s Player of the Week after leading Goshen to a 2-1 record last week.

McDugle, a 6-0 senior center, scored 32 points in the Leafs’ 65-60 win over Siena Heights University on Nov. 17 and tallied a game-high 23 points in Goshen’s defeat of NAIA Div. I ninth-ranked Campbellsville University on Nov. 19. For the week, McDugle averaged 24.7 points per game, shot 58 percent from the field and shot 78 percent from both the free throw line and the three-point arc.

“Erin has done a tremendous job leading us by effort and example early in the season,” said Steve Wiktorowski, Goshen head coach. “She has especially carried us offensively as some new people get used to our system and playing at this level of competition. The remarkable thing about her performance has been that she has fought through a great deal of pain and illness to play at a very high level. She is showing signs of getting healthier and increasing her stamina, which will be important as we start through our conference schedule and people begin to key on her more.”

McDugle has been fighting stomach complications due to prolonged exposure to a certain prescription for chronic back ailments. Goshen head athletic trainer reports McDugle’s condition as “improving” from day to day.

McDugle was twice awarded the conference player of the week award last season en route to taking the league’s player of the year honor.

Goshen will next host the University of St. Francis to open MCC competition Tuesday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
