DEC. 6 — Williams Named MCC's Player Of The Week
Career-high 27 points helps senior to first weekly honor of career
Indianapolis, IN — Just 48 hours after charting her career high in points, Goshen College senior Candice Williams was named the Mid-Central Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball.

Williams, a 6-0 multi-talented guard, dropped 27 points and six rebounds in the Leafs’ 77-80 overtime loss to Marian College Saturday afternoon. In Goshen’s 60-57 win over newly appointed MCC foe Spring Arbor University on Tuesday, Williams scored 10 points to go with five rebounds and four assists.

“Candice is starting to again play on the offensive end of the court like she did last year,” said Goshen head coach Steve Wiktorowski. “She is becoming more aggressive, as well as being more selective offensively. She is a big key to our success.”

The award is Williams’ first since arriving to Goshen last season — she transferred to the school after graduating from Vincennes University in 2003 — and was named to All-MCC First Team honors last year, averaging 15.1 points per game. Through Goshen’s first 11 games this season, Williams is scoring 13.5 points per game.

Wiktorowski can only hope Williams will continue her latest efforts, as the Leafs will host sixth-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University to the Roman Gingerich Center for a huge pre-Christmas MCC clash this Thursday night.
