POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Just two weeks after being named First Team All Mid-Central Conference (Click here for related article), sophomore Errick McCollum II received another award, being selected as a NAIA DII All American Honorable Mention.
As part of the festivities at the NAIA DII National Championships in Missouri, the All American Teams were announced. It becomes the second national honor for the Canton, Ohio native who was selected to the MCC Second Team and Newcomer of the Year as a freshman (Click here for related article).
The 6-foot-1 guard led the Maple Leafs with 23.6 points a game, which is the third highest single-season total in Goshen College history. Just two years into his collegiate career, McCollum is literally rewriting the Goshen College record book.
His 732 points in 2007-08 places his season second all-time behind the 2000-2001 season of Jeremy Budreau, while McCollum already ranks in the top 10 in career scoring with 1,286 points.
McCollum's uncanny ability to finish in the lane also put his sophomore season in the top 10 in Goshen's record book in field goals (216), field goal attempts (490), free throws (224), free throw attempts (275), 3-point field goals (76), and 3-point field goal attempts (187). McCollum got the Mid-Central Conference campaign off to an outstanding start, hitting 11-of-20 from the floor for 34 points in a 81-73 upset win over then NAIA #5 ranked Indiana Wesleyan (Click here for related article).
A pair of MCC teams made it to the National Championship Tournament as both Bethel College and Grace College advanced to the Elite Eight. Oregon Institute of Technology defeated top-seeded Bellevue University (Neb.) 63-56 in the championship game for their second national title.
