28 Walsh Earns MCC P.O.W. On Buller's Heels

scores 35 in comeback over St. Francis; Leafs earn consecutive
honors |
Marion, IN — The Mid-Central Conference
announced Monday that Goshen senior Eric Walsh was selected as the MCC
Player of the Week, coming off the heels of senior Jordan Buller’s
honor last week (click here for article).
Walsh scored 35 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Goshen’s dramatic,
come from behind 79-76 win over the University of St. Francis last Tuesday — the
team’s only game of the week. Walsh scored 18 of his 35 during a
second-half that saw Goshen outscore the visiting Cougars by a 47-26 count
(click here for game recap). Walsh converted 11 of 17 shots from the floor
in the win while knocking in 13 of 14 free throw attempts. He also added
a blocked shot and a steal.
Equally as impressive is the current stat-watch for Walsh to
become the Goshen College program career scoring leader, as he needs just
39 points to break the current record of 1,900 points held by Roger Prough
(1998 graduate). Walsh will have his next opportunity to add to his current
total Tuesday night when the Leafs travel to MCC foe Spring Arbor University,
the team that knocked Goshen out of the 2004-2005 MCC Tournament.
“There is no question how valuable Eric has been to our program,
but it goes much deeper than just game days,” said Cory Furman,
Goshen assistant coach. “Eric is as fiery and as fierce of a competitor
as anyone I’ve ever been around in the game of basketball. He works
as hard as anyone I’ve ever been around. In my opinion, that makes
all the honors and awards that he receives well-deserved.”
Walsh’s latest Player of the Week honor comes immediately after
Buller’s award last week, giving Goshen back-to-back MCC Player
of the Week awards for the first time in program history.
“Our whole program is based on team stuff,” Furman said. “There
really is no individual stuff (discussed) in our locker room.
But, it’s
nice to have players recognized by people and entities outside
our program. Eric and Jordan both are deserving of this recognition.”
Goshen will return to the hardwood Tuesday, when the team travels
to Spring Arbor. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Click here for a complete
