NOV. 21 — Buller Tabbed MCC P.O.W. On Eve Of Opener
Senior leads team to wins over #15 St. Ambrose, Ashford with USF up next
Marion, IN — The Mid-Central Conference announced Monday that Goshen senior Jordan Buller was the MCC men’s basketball Player of the Week, coming off a trio of outstanding performances that helped Goshen to a 2-1 record over the past seven days of action.

Buller averaged 15.3 points per game and five assists per game in helping the Leafs to an 86-66 win over NAIA 15th-ranked St. Ambrose University and a 95-71 thrashing of Ashford University in the Ashford University Classic last weekend while being a bright spot in a 50-83 loss to NCAA Division II powerhouse Grand Valley State University on Tuesday.

Buller shot 65.2 percent from the floor (15 of 23) in the three-game stretch, making seven of 10 three-point attempts and missing just one free throw in 10 tries. Buller scored 18 points on six of eight shooting in the Leafs’ win over Ashford, with perhaps his most impressive effort — 15 points, six assists, five rebounds — coming in Saturday’s win over St. Ambrose. On the season, Buller is averaging 11.6 points per game on 53.6 percent shooting.

“There is no question that we are at our best when Jordan is quarterbacking our team and making good decisions with the basketball,” said Stan Daugherty, Goshen head coach. “What makes Jordan unique as a point guard is his ability to both distribute the ball and score as well. When he’s got it going, he’s able to keep defenses off balance by doing a little bit of both. That was certainly the case in our two wins this past weekend.”

The award is the first of the season for the Goshen men’s program and Buller’s first since being named NAIA National Player of the Week on Feb. 15 of last season. Buller claimed that award — along with the MCC honor — after helping Goshen to wins over then eighth-ranked Huntington University and 12th-ranked Taylor University (click here for article). Buller remains as the only Goshen College basketball player, male or female, to earn that honor, and was the MCC’s first recipient since the mid-90’s to be named national player of the week.

Goshen will next open its Mid-Central Conference slate against the University of St. Francis. The Cougars will visit the Roman Gingerich Center for a 7 p.m. tip off Tuesday night. Click here for a complete game recap.
