MAY 25 — Goshen Secures Talented Shooter In Bow
State's 11th-most prolific three-point shooter chooses Leafs program
Muncie, IN — It has been a productive week for the Goshen College men’s basketball program, as the Leafs announced the signing of 2005 Delta High School (Muncie, Ind.) graduate Bryce Bow on Wednesday. Bow, a 6-2 shooting guard, announced his plans to join the Leafs’ program just one week after 6-4 Anderson High School graduate Sam Boldman signed his letter of intent with Goshen (click here for Boldman article). Bow and Boldman join 6-7 Whiteland High School graduate Josh Martin (click here form Martin article) in the Leafs’ 2005-2006 recruiting class to date.

“We are thrilled that Bryce is coming to Goshen College to play basketball for us,” said Stan Daugherty, Goshen head coach. “He will provide us with an ability to extend defenses, and is fundamentally sound in all areas of play. As he gets stronger and learns the college game, he will develop into a solid player for us.”

Daugherty acquires a skilled shooter in Bow, as the off guard finished as the 11th best three-point shooter in the state of Indiana in his senior season, connecting on 49 of 101 attempts from deep (48.5 percent). Bow averaged 10.9 points per game for the Eagles, while connecting on 48.5 percent of his total field goals (83 for 171) en route to being named All-Delaware County and Honorable Mention All-Hoosier Heritage Conference. Bow was named to the all-regional team and to the Muncie Star Press Second Team All-Area following his senior season, helping lead Delta to a 28-16 record over his final two years of competition.

“Bryce is a first class individual who takes the game very seriously,” said Paul Keller, Delta High School head coach. “He works very hard to improve each time he steps on the court. His best basketball is still ahead of him as he gets physically stronger and matures. He will only get better.”

In addition to fulfilling on the court needs for the Leafs, Bow will also help upkeep the team’s strong academic performance. Bow maintained a 3.9 grade point average while at Delta High School, achieving an academic honors diploma upon graduation. The Goshen squad posted a team GPA of 3.45 at the conclusion of the 2004-2005 season, the highest average of any team under Daugherty.

“Bryce is a prime example of the way a student-athlete should approach academics while being a college athlete,” Daugherty said. “He is a disciplined, well-rounded person who will be an asset to our program. Bryce will represent our basketball team as well off the floor as he will on the floor.”

According to Bow, the decision to attend and play basketball for Goshen College was finalized during his campus visit. He had been in contact with Anderson University and Depauw University throughout the recruiting process, but said Goshen just felt right. Bow plans to study physical education once at Goshen.

“I really liked the campus and coaching staff when I visited,” Bow said. “It just kind of clicked. Goshen has had a heck of a team over the past few years, and it felt like a good situation for me to learn in. You’ve got some pretty good people playing there that know how to get it done. I’m anxious to learn the game from proven winners who’ve had success at that level. I’m ready to get to work, get bigger and improve my game. I don’t want to be one-dimensional. I can shoot it alright, but I want to work on other parts of my game.”

Daugherty said that even with two signings in seven days, the squad’s recruiting class may not be complete just yet.
