DEC. 6 — Walsh Shares MCC Co-P.O.W. Honors
Career-high helps junior forward to first honor of season
Indianapolis, IN — A career-high 36 points against Spring Arbor University on Nov. 30 helped Goshen College junior Eric Walsh to a co-Mid-Central Conference Player of the Week award Monday, as Walsh averaged 28.5 points per game in leading the Leafs to a 1-1 record over the past seven days.

Goshen defeated Spring Arbor by an 81-78 count at the Roman Gingerich Center behind Walsh’s efforts, but his 21 points could not push Goshen past 10th-ranked Marian College on Saturday. Goshen lost the game against the Knights by a 75-67 score.

“Eric is obviously a tremendous player, but we are also asking him to be a leader this season,” said Stan Daugherty, Goshen head coach. “He has accepted that role, and has done a good job of setting the example and tone for this team this year.”

Walsh knocked in 15 of 27 field goals (56 percent) in the Leafs’ last two contests, grabbing 5.5 rebounds per game and dishing out three assists per game. He knocked in 26 of 32 free throws in Goshen’s last two contests (81 percent), and played and average of 34.5 minutes per game.

Ironically, Walsh shares this week’s honors with Spring Arbor junior Micah Lancaster, who scored 22 points against Goshen and then exploded for a career-high 37 points in the Cougars’ 90-82 win over the University of St. Francis on Saturday.

Goshen will next face-off against Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Marion, Ind.
