JUNE 18 — Hefley Signing Gives Maple Leafs More Impact Size

Fremont HS Standout Averaged 18.4 Points, 10 Rebounds As Senior

GOSHEN, Ind. – Having already signed 6-foot, 9-inch center Cody Henson, Goshen College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Gary Chupp added some more size this week with the signing of Fremont High School standout Austin Hefley.

“With our need for impact size, I am really excited that Austin has decided to continue his career at Goshen College,” Chupp explained. “He is a skilled big man that has a great feel for the game, can score both inside and outside, and is a tremendous passer out of the post. He will certainly have an opportunity to make an immediate contribution right away.”

A 6’6” post at Fremont (Angola, Ind.), Hefley averaged an astounding 18.4 points and 10 rebounds a game as a senior. He was named to the Indiana Top 100 list as well as selected to the Nancy Reem All-Star Game.

“I really liked the family atmosphere on the team and it is a good chance to play close to home,” Hefley said of his decision to don the Maple Leaf uniform. “I also like fact that Coach Chupp is bringing in a strong recruiting class to play with and hopefully I will be able to contribute right away.”

A two-time All Northeast Corner Conference First Team pick, Hefley has also been named to the KPC All Area First Team four times.
