Huntington, IN — Coming off two wins
at Grace and winning three of their last four the Goshen College
Maple Leafs were not satisfied. “We have been playing well and
wanted to keep things going with two more wins today,” said Goshen
head coach Jayson Best. The Leafs did just that, knocking off
the Huntington College Forresters by scores of 5-3 and 4-3,
improving their record
to 9-7 overall
and 8-4 in the conference.
Goshen started things off right in Game One scoring three first
inning runs. They also added a run in both the fifth and seventh innings.
The Leafs were only able to collect four hits in the game, but took advantage
of three Forrester errors to score five runs. Junior pitcher Ben Taylor
collected his third win of the year on the mound. Sophomore Nate Colclasure
and Freshman Mike Staehle led Goshen both hitting a double, knocking in
an RBI and scoring a run.
In Game Two Senior Josh Snyder and Sophomore Brian Shelton shared
the pitching duties with Shelton picking up the win. Goshen again was
the first to score as they were able to get a run in the first inning.
They would score three in the third, giving them four runs which would
be enough as their tough defense held Huntington to three runs.
Staehle picked up his second double and RBI of the day. Senior
Erik Hisner went 3-3 in Game Two and Shelton helped himself to the win
with a triple, two RBI’s and a run scored.
Goshen will now take a break from conference play as they next
take on Tri-State University on Tuesday, April 5. Game One is set to begin
at 1 p.m.
