Marian Stays Perfect In MCC Play With Sweep Of Goshen
Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2
GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen College softball team was unable to stop their season-long losing against Marian University Saturday afternoon as the visiting Knights remained unbeaten in Mid-Central College Conference play with 12-8 and 13-4 victories.
A combination of injuries and the rigorous Mid-Central College Conference schedule has led the Maple Leafs to eight-straight losses.
Marian took control from the start in game one as a six-run first set the tone. The Maple Leafs actually out scored the Knights from that point on, including trading three-run frames in the fifth and seventh innings. Goshen also pounded out eight of their 10 hits in the final two innings of the contest.
Sophomore Liz Berg went 2-for-3 in the contest with a home run, a double, and three RBIs.
In the nightcap, it was shaky defense that gave Goshen trouble. A season high 12 errors led to 13 Knight runs on just four hits, while the Leafs tallied seven hits
Junior Sierra Van De Keere went 3-for-4 to lead the offense and was also the tough-luck loser in the circle.
After a break for final exams, the Maple Leafs look to get back on track in their final home games of the season on Friday, April 23. Goshen will host Purdue University - North Central and will also pay tribute to their three graduating seniors, Diana Stanley, Jessica Carney, and Kathryn Schlabach.
