Host Foresters Get Past Maple Leafs In Huntington
HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Box Score) - Still looking for its spot in the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament, the Goshen College women's basketball team could not find a way past host Huntington University, falling 56-80 Saturday afternoon.
The Maple Leafs shot a respectable 45% overall in the contest, but drained just 3-of-22 attempts from beyond the arc. They also gave up 19 offensive rebounds and turned the ball over 22 times.
They got off to a good start, hitting two of their first three interior attempts and forcing a pair of Huntington turnovers for a quick 5-2 advantage.
Then, the combination of Sarah Miller and Pazia Speed took over. The pair accounted for 11 points during a 13-3 Forsters run as the home team went up 15-8. They eventually led by as many as nine in the opening period.
Speed opened the second half with a layup sending the Huntington lead to double digits for the first time and it stayed that way the rest of the afternoon.
Senior Cassie Greives led the way for Goshen with 18 points and seven rebounds, while classmate Erica Yost posted 13 points and five assists. Sarah Miller and Pazia Speed each had 20 points for the host Foresters (16-10, 8-6 MCC).
The Maple Leafs (6-22, 2-12) are still one-half game ahead of Spring Arbor University for the final spot in the MCC Tournament. They will travel to Taylor University - a team they defeated 64-62 in Goshen - next Wednesday before closing the regular season at home against Marian University next Saturday.
