GOSHEN, Ind. — Kyra Krall posted a pair of victories, winning at number-five singles and number-two doubles, but the Goshen College women's tennis team closed its fall season Tuesday with a 7-2 loss to Indiana Tech at the Goshen College Tennis Complex.

With the women's match starting with singles rather than doubles due to court space and the simultaneous men's match, Krall got the Maple Leafs on the board early with a 6-1, 6-0 win. The victory marked the first time this season that a Maple Leaf woman had won back-to-back sets, let alone in the same match. The Carmel, Indiana native set a season best for largest margin of victory in the first set before eclipsing it in the second.

The Warriors (1-4) would claim each of the other singles matches without dropping more than two games in a set, putting them in the driver's seat entering doubles competition. After winning their singles matches by a combined score of 24-3, Maria Jimenez and Hannah Dodd combined to win 8-9 at number-one doubles, becoming the lone Warriors to win twice on the day and putting the team up 7-1.

At the number-two spot, Krall and partner Mezrae Watt had other ideas. After a back-and-forth start saw the teams split the first six games, Watt and Krall claimed six of the last eight for an 8-5 win.

The twin victories made Krall the first Maple Leaf to win singles and doubles matches in the same team match since Abby Banning turned the trick against Bethel on Sept. 1, 2015. The two individual wins push the 2017 team past the 2016 team for the most in director of tennis Evan Atkinson's tenure.

The loss ends Goshen's fall season with an 0-10 record one day before all-conference awards are slated for announcement. For more information on the Maple Leafs throughout the summer, visit GoLeafs.net and follow the team on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
