GRANGER, Ind. — Bethel College picked up its first win of the Crossroads League women's tennis season Saturday morning in a 9-0 sweep of Goshen College at Knollwood Country Club.

While host Bethel (2-1, 1-1) won each match in straight sets or by default, Mezrae Watt and Elsie Koop Liechty posted their best showing of the season at no. 2 doubles for Goshen (0-2, 0-2). The duo dropped an 8-1 decision after getting shut out in their collegiate debut together on Tuesday.

Caroline Bogear, Taylor Freedline and Abbey VanDiver each won twice for the Pilots.

"The women continue to gain valuable experience," said Goshen director of tennis Evan Atkinson. "I'm happy with our improvements and hope we continue to build our tennis IQ. Most of our opponents have played tennis for a much longer period of time so we'll continue to emphasize the process and maintain a strong effort."

Goshen's next task will be a tall one as the Maple Leafs host Indiana Wesleyan, which has won or shared 24 of the last 25 conference championships and sports a 2-0 record this fall. The match is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Goshen courts.
