GOSHEN, Ind. — Fairfield High School product Emily Mast topped Goshen High School graduate Megan Ewing in a number-one doubles match featuring two Elkhart County products Wednesday afternoon as Mast's Grace College team shut out Ewing's Goshen College side 9-0 in Crossroads League women's tennis action at the Goshen courts.

After pairing with junior Chloe Woodward in doubles competition, Ewing would put up Goshen's best singles performance on the scoreboard in a loss to Carrie Copeland at no. 2. In addition Copeland and Mast formed the top doubles team for the Lancers (2-0, 1-0 CL).

A pair of freshmen saw their first college action for the Maple Leafs (0-1, 0-1), playing together at no. 2 doubles before holding down the fort in the middle of the singles lineup. Goshen High School graduate Elsie Koop Liechty played no. 3 singles while Chicago product Mezrae Watt played no. 4.

"I was really proud of how all of our women showed fight and effort on every point and never quit or gave up," Goshen director of tennis Evan Atkinson said. "Elsie and Mezrae were both able to compete with their opponents but could not quite string enough together to equate to games. Grace is a very solid team and we'll learn from the experience."

Atkinson takes his team on the road for the first time in Goshen's next match, a visit to Bethel College at Knollwood Country Club in Granger at 11 a.m. Saturday.
