GOSHEN, Ind. — Goshen College women's soccer fans eagerly anticipating the beginning of the 2017 season will need to find a way to squeeze the toothpaste of anticipation back into the tube: the Maple Leafs' scheduled season opener Friday evening at Marygrove College has been canceled.

Head coach Scott Gloden's team will now open its campaign next Wednesday in Pasadena, California, against Providence Christian College. The first of two matches in the program's first-ever trip to the Pacific Time Zone will also be the latest kickoff in program history. Owing to the three-hour time difference, the 10 p.m. EDT start checks in two hours later than the previous mark of 8 p.m. Goshen time, set twice in 1996 and matched last fall at Calumet College of St. Joseph.

The Maple Leafs' season preview will still be released Thursday night as scheduled: the team's first set of weekly notes, however, will be delayed until Monday.

Sporting 14 new faces and 10 returners from a 2016 team that posted its best Crossroads League finish since 2009, GC will open its home slate on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Cleary University.
