GOSHEN, Ind. — Junior Brooke Maes knocked in a run in each game as Indiana Wesleyan University swept Goshen College 12-1 and 10-2 Tuesday afternoon in a Crossroads League softball doubleheader at GC's Ingold Athletic Complex.

IWU (38-10, 25-7) opened the scoring with four unearned runs in the first inning of the first game and led 5-0 before Brianna Sherman's leadoff double led to a Goshen run in the bottom of the third. Goshen (9-27, 6-24) added a second run two frames later when Maes singled and Emily Namisnak doubled, but IWU would add four more scores in the sixth inning to trigger the mercy rule.

Kaisey Carson got the complete-game win in the circle for the Wildcats while three teammates led the team with three hits each. First baseman Sara Kreitzer had only two, but circled the bases on each for a pair of home runs. Kreitzer and Sydney Williams each drove in three runs. Maes led Goshen with two hits.

In the nightcap, Candace Sutter led off the bottom of the first with a triple down the left-field line before Maes knocked her in with an infield single. The visitors retaliated with a storm of paper cuts, scoring in each of the next five innings and finishing with six runs in the sixth.

Sutter paced the Maple Leafs with two hits and four total bases while first baseman Sandra Rodriguez added a double. Nine Wildcats recorded hits and six had RBIs, including a three-run double from center fielder Kira Madl.

Alexis Carpenter threw 132 pitches for Goshen in the loss with Courtney Crapser coming in to finish the job. Carlie Weaver got the win on the other side after scattering three hits and seven strikeouts in five innings.

GC returns to action with a doubleheader Friday at Saint Francis before hosting Marian for Senior Day at 1 p.m. Saturday.
