INDIANAPOLIS — Goshen College senior Ryan Smith has been named Crossroads League Runner of the Week in men's cross country for the period ending Oct. 23, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Smith claimed the honor for the second time this season after finishing first overall at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday, finishing the eight-kilometer (4.97-mile) course in 25 minutes, 3.13 seconds.

All 10 CL programs competed head-to-head in the challenge, joined by 18 other schools from the region, and while Marian won the team title, Smith finished 12 seconds faster than the second CL runner, Taylor's Matt Hall.

Smith was previously honored as CL Runner of the Week on October 24 when he broke his own school record in 24:55 at the Greater Louisville Classic. The three-time national qualifier owns 11 of the 15 fastest times in Maple Leaf cross country history.

Goshen is off this week before traveling to the Crossroads League meet in Marion, Indiana, on November 5.

The Crossroads League selects one or more players of the week in each of its 15 sponsored sports during the conference season based on nominations from the conference's 10 member institutions.
