GOSHEN, Ind. – For the first time this year the Springer Design Maple Leaf Athlete of the Week goes to a group of players from the same team. The women's basketball sophomore classs receives the first honor of the new year, earning recognition for action between December 29 and January 4.
The trio helped the Maple Leaf women snap a five game slide by defeating Judson University 83-65 Monday night in their first contest after the Christmas break. Liz Tecca, Jo'Mani Thomas, and Tyra Carver combined for 46 points in the victory. Tecca hit four 3-pointers and Carver posted her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
While they could not stop the 16-game winning streak of top-ranked Saint Francis on Saturday, the group still all scored in double figures, including Thomas' 15 point, five rebounds performance.
The Maple Leaf Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Springer Design, Inc. and is chosen each Monday by a committee of Goshen College personnel.
