FOUR SET SPLITS: At the Concordia University Tournament, the Maple Leafs split each day, going 2-2 overall. All four matches went exactly four sets during the opening weekend. The middle two sets were the deciding factors with Goshen going 0-4 in the second set and 4-0 in the third, splitting (2-2) both the opening and final sets.
INJURY BUG: Heading into the season already without all conference outside hitter Jaime Stack, the Maple Leafs suffered a number of knocks during opening weekend. Freshmen Lexa Magnuson and Riley Shultz both missed time, while sophomore Katy Anspach also went down. "We played very scrappy especially having three starters out," head coach Jim Routhier said. "We were able to try many different combinations and learned a lot about ourselves."
STEPPING UP: A pair of juniors - Mandy Schlabach and Megan Strock - took a step into the spotlight at the Concordia Tournament. Strock set a new career high with 11 digs in the win over Indiana University East. She compiled 30 total in the four matches, ranking her 18th in the country. Schlabach, meanwhile, equaled her career high with eight kills, twice (in both matches Saturday against UM Dearborn and Mount Vernon Nazarene).
