MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Goshen College women's basketball team could not keep pace with NAIA DII #15 Bethel College Wednesday night, losing a Crossroads League match up 86-46.
The host Pilots started the contest on a 21-2 run with the lone Maple Leaf basket coming from sophomore Jaime Stack. After opening a double-digit lead in the first five minutes, Bethel never looked back. They shot 43% and held a 75-54 advantage in field goal attempts after forcing 34 turnovers. Laura Johnson led all scorers with 17 points for the Pilots, while Katy Stuppy and Georgia Boisse each scored 12.
Thanks to a game-high 17 rebounds by senior Mary Hathaway, Goshen won the battle on the glass 45-38. Hathaway has grabbed 36 rebounds in the last two contests and is now averaging 10.3 per contest, the 12th best total in NAIA DII.
Senior Sam Hawk hit 4-of-8 from the field for a team-high 14 points off the bench. She has 37 points in her last two games and is now tied with a team-leading 12.4 per contest.
Goshen (0-9, 0-2 CL) plays its final Crossroads League contest of the fall semester on Saturday when they host NAIA DII #9 University of Saint Francis.
