FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The search for its first Crossroads League victory continues for the Goshen College women's soccer team after they fell 2-0 to the University of Saint Francis under the lights of D'Arcy Stadium Tuesday night.
It was a pair of early goals that sank the Maple Leafs. Saint Francis' Heather Jones scored just 13:15 into the contest and Kelsie Strout added a 19th minute strike for the hosts.
The pair of first-half tallies was more than enough for the Cougars to hold on as they out shot Goshen 17-4, including 10-1 on frame. In her third start of the season, freshman Sierra Bitterling (Central Point, Ore.) made eight saves.
The win keeps Saint Francis (4-1) just one game back of league-leading Spring Arbor (5-0).
Goshen (4-10, 0-5 CL), meanwhile, is now winless in its last nine and will need to win at least two of its last four contests to earn a spot in the Crossroads League Tournament. They are back on the road as they travel to Taylor University (9-4, 2-3 CL) on Saturday.
