GOSHEN, Ind. – A furious late rally fell one goal short as the Goshen College women's soccer team dropped a Crossroads League contest 3-2 to visiting Huntington University Wednesday night.
The Foresters broke the scoring open in the 24th minute when Lisa Underwood found the back of the net. Just over 10 minutes later, Alyssa Krausse scored and then Huntington opened a 3-0 lead in the 59th on Underwood's second of the night.
With less than 30 minutes to play, though, the Maple Leafs rallied. Junior Mary Person scored the first goal of her Goshen College career with a stunning 30-yard strike from the left side. Then, in the 76th minute, senior Marina do Valle fired another long-range effort. Her 35-yard free kick brought the Leafs within one.
They continued to press hard in the final 15 minutes and Goshen ultimately out shot Huntington 18-15 (12-9 on frame), but still could not find the equalizer. The Foresters Sam Barclay made 10 saves to earn the win.
The Maple Leafs (4-8, 0-3 CL) will be back on the pitch when they host bethel College at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
