MARION,Ind.- The Goshen College Maple Leaf's Volleyball Team traveled to the home of conference foe, Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday evening. The Maple Leafs had a rough night losing in three games to the #9 ranked Wildcats, but stayed on their toes throughout.
"I felt the girls gave a good effort tonight. We were down three and five points and would come back and be within one or even tie the score. Then, we would make two or three errors and dig another hole for ourselves," said Head Coach Jim Routhier of his team's play against the Wildcats.
Leading the Leafs in kills for the night were senior Hannah Greiser with seven and sophomore Sam Heberling (recently back from an ankle injury) with six kills. Assisting the two lead hitters was junior setter Stacy Wyse with 20 assists for the evening. Sophomore libero Missy Mackowiak continued to set up the offense, leading in digs with 13.
The Leafs lost to the Cougars 19-25, 18-25, and 23-25. Although the Goshen team struggled to come out with a win, the team continues to move forward and strengthen mentally with each conference match they see.
"We just can't seem to get over that hill to pull off the win. The team is a bit frustrated but we will come back on Saturday with a big win over Marian at home," says a hopeful Routhier of his teams play.
The Leafs are now 8-12 overall and 3-7 in Crossroads League play. The team will see its next action against Marian University in the Goshen Recreation Fitness Center on Saturday, October 6.
