ANDERSON, Ind.- Goshen College's Women's Volleyball Team was on the road this weekend, traveling to Anderson (Ind.) to play in a tri-way tournament with Bluffton University and Anderson University. The Maple Leafs went 1-1 on the day, falling to Bluffton University but defeating Anderson University.

Head Coach Jim Routhier spoke of the loss to Bluffton saying, "They were a good team. They jumped up and bit us. We missed serves and had a couple bad hits causing us to fall behind."

The Lady Leafs fell to the Beavers in three sets at 23-25, 17-25, and 18-25.

Goshen struggled to find their groove in the first match, but were able to regroup and adjust before their second match to the home team, Anderson University.

Leading hitters for the Maple Leafs in the Bluffton match included Hannah Greiser with 11 kills along with sophomores Jamie Stack and Melanie Meyer with five kills each. Leading in digs was sophomore libero Missy Mackowiak with 12.

Goshen was back on top in their second match of the day, defeating Anderson University in four games. The Maple leafs were back on their "A" game with both defense and offense moving more quickly to make plays.

"During the Anderson game we really got our act together with hitters hitting well and defense stepping up. Anderson is a good team and took us the first one but after that we got to the ball better," said Routhier of his team's improved performance.

The Leafs fell in the first set of the match 21-25 but quickly made a comeback taking the next three games 29-27, 25-22, and finally 25-21.

Leading the team in hits were sophomores Sam Heberling with 23 kills and Jamie Stack with 14. Junior setter Stacy Wyse led the team with 52 assists and sophomore libero Missy Mackowiak led the Leafs with an outstanding 38 digs for the win.

The team will see conference opponents Indiana Wesleyan and Marian in the coming week. This past weekend's tournament was good preparation in mental toughness for the Leafs.

The Maple Leafs are now 8-13 overall and 3-7 in the Crossroads League. The team plays next at Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7pm.
