SPRING ARBOR, Mich.- The Goshen College Women's Tennis team to the home of the Spring Arbor Cougars to battle it out in a conference match up Tuesday. Despite great effort from the Lady Leafs, the Cougars took the match with a victory of 7-2 over Goshen.
Anika Baumgartner stole the show for Goshen, coming from behind to win a super tiebreaker 10-8 at No. 1 singles. She got down 0-3 and then again at 2-6 before coming back to win the breaker. She went on to win 8 of the next 10 points of her close match.
Baumgartner saw her second win of the night in her #1 doubles match with partner Maria Thomas. The duo beat out their opponent in an aggressive 9-7 victory.
"This was the fist doubles win of the season in conference," noted head coach Doug Gossman after his doubles win.
The Maple Leafs are now 0-6 overall and 0-6 in Crossroads League play. Their next match is on Tuesday (September 18) when they travel to Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
