WINONA LAKE, Ind. - In their first traditional meet of the season, the Goshen College women's cross country team took third place at the Grace College Lancer Invitational.
They defeated a pair of Crossroads League opponents and finished just behind host Grace with 77 points. Grace had 74, while event champion Huntington University tallied just 15.
"The women's team ran a very competitive race," head coach Doug Yoder said. "They were very close to Grace and showed signs of things to come. There were a lot of first race jitters that were good to get out of the way. Cynthia Media and Irene Schmid were impressive for their first collegiate runs."
Medina finished 10th overall on the 5k course with a time of 20:33, while Schmid was 17th in 21:20. Sophomore Ali Hochstetler and senior Karla Folker were also in the top 20 in 21:06 and 21:32, respectively, giving the Leafs just 1:20 between their top five runners.
Goshen also had 12 runners clock in less than 23 minutes on the 5k course around the Grace College athletic fields.
The Maple Leafs will be back in action on September 21 when they travel to the Brissman-Lundren Invitational hosted by Augustana College.
