GOSHEN, Ind. – It was a tough weekend for the Goshen College volleyball team as they were swept twice in conference play.  The Maple Leafs fell victim to #7 Indiana Wesleyan University at home Friday night, then were defeated by host Marian University on Saturday afternoon.

In the first match of the weekend, the highly-ranked Wildcats closed the first set on a 10-5 run and never looked back.  They eventually took the match 25-15, 25-22, 25-17.

Kristine Egebercht led all attackers with 15 kills on just 21 swings for Indiana Wesleyan (.714 hitting percentage), while Yui Iwase dished out 39 assists.

For Goshen, sophomore Jaime Stack led the way with 10 kills and classmate Missy Mackowiak had a match high 19 digs.

The next afternoon, Marian handed the Maple Leafs their fourth-straight defeat, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22.  The loss concluded a tough 0-3 start for Goshen in Crossroads League play.

Ashley Francis led all hitters with 12 kills, hitting an impressive 61%, while Kacie Kelly dished out 35 assists for the host Knights.

Sophomore Sam Heberling led Goshen with 11 kills, junior Stacy Wyse had 34 assists, and Mackowiak posted a match-high 21 digs.  She has been the team dig leader (or tied for team lead) in all 12 of the Leafs' matches so far in 2012.

Goshen (4-8, 0-3 CL) returns to action next Wednesday when they travel to Spring Arbor University.
