Zook Wins At No. 3 Singles, But Maple Leafs Fall To USF
GOSHEN, Ind - The Maple Leafs had another tough lose to a conference foe, this time struggling to overcome the Saint Francis Cougars. The women's team fought hard, but in the end the cougars took home the win 8-1 Tuesday afternoon.
"Anika jumped out to a 3-0 lead but lost 7-5, then got down 3-0 in second and came back to 6-4. Nikita and Maddie lost their first set and came back to win the second, but only Nikita was able to win the super breaker. Anika and Maria were serving for their match at 7-6, but got broke. They then saved two match points on Maria's serve to force a tie-breaker," said head coach Doug Gossman.
Nikita Zook, however, was able to take the first individual win of the season for the Lady Leafs, defeating Elizabeth Faber 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 at No. 3 singles.
The women's tennis team is now 0-3 (0-3 Crossroads League) and will now head to Taylor University on Thursday.
