GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen College head women's soccer coach Fabio dos Santos continues to put together his first recruiting class at the helm of the Maple Leafs, announcing the addition of six student-athletes to the 2012 roster.
Two local stars and four transfers are part of the group, which dos Santos' sees making significant competitive strides in the Mid-Central College Conference. More signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Maple Leafs will start the 2012 campaign with a preseason training trip to Gulf Shores, Ala. (Aug. 8-18) before officially opening the season at the Cardinal Stritch University Tournament August 31- September 3 in Milwaukee.
Bethany Christian High School
"Like most freshman, Malaina is already working towards her goals to be successful on and off the field. She is a very smart young lady and very dedicated to soccer and her academics. She is the future of Goshen Soccer! Malaina comes from a family that has roots at Goshen College and like them, she will write her own history and contribute to Goshen College history. She was a four-year varsity defender at Bethany, twice a team captain and made the NISC First Team in 2011."
Goshen High School
"Naomi comes to Goshen College after a stellar career at Goshen High School. She played all four years at the varsity level, was named all conference in 2010 and 2011, and was picked as the team's Outstanding Forward in both 2009 and 2010 helping lead Goshen High School to conference championships all the way to state competition. Naomi is a great local talent. She is going to bring skills and goals to our attack. I am very glad she signed with us. Naomi comes from a greta local family and she will be a great student here."
New Mexico Highlands Univ.
"Bianca is bringing experience and tenacity to our squad this coming season. She has been recognized throughout the years starting as a club and high school player as all league through college as all region. She has already had a very successful career. Bianca is a surprising factor on the field, she is relentless and dedicated to the team and her teammates. She will make a big impact this season for Goshen."
"Mary is an international player that will add to our attacking side with her experience and knowledge of the game. After playing in the Junior College All Star Game, she will bring the attacking power we need for the coming seasons. She will also be a great teammate to the younger players and will help the coaching staff create the mentality necessary to win at the next level."
Juliana da Silva
"Juliana joins the Goshen family from Brazil. Most recently, she was playing at a community college in Arizona where she led to the team to a very successful season. She is a true midfielder that will give us a lot of creativity and power. She has a great attitude and is a great team player. I know coaches will notice her on the field."
New Mexico Highlands Univ.
"Kahyra will bring a lot of experience to our program. Besides playing several years of high level club soccer in Oregon, she also played for a well recognized junior college beside several nationally known players. She is very humble and is joining the Maple Leafs to help build the program. I am extremely happy Kahrya is coming. She will make an impact immediately and will help the younger players develop as well."
