GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen College head soccer coaches Tavi Mounsithiraj and Fabio dos Santos have announced the signing of suburban Chicago twins Christian and Katelyn Vendrely to national letter of intents.
Both have extensive playing experience at Homewood Flossmoor High School (Flossmoor, Ill.) as well as elite-level club programs. Read more about Christian's signing.
Kate is a four-year letter winner and three-year starter in the midfield and on defense. She was named the team's Most Improved Player in 2010, helped the Vikings to the Illinois Elite Eight in 2011 and is a team captain as a senior in 2012.
"I am very happy that Kate has chosen Goshen College to continue her academic and soccer careers," dos Santos explained. "Her experience and dedication to the game will be a great addition to our program."
For the past four years, Vendrely has been a member of the Chicago Fire Juniors, playing U-15 to U-18. Her teams have competed in the Midwest Regional League, Illinois Women's Soccer League, Super Y League, Barrington Indoor League and participated in tournaments in Raleigh, Memphis, Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas and St. Louis. Prior to that, Kate played eight years with the Chicago Magic Soccer Club and was part of the 2007 Illinois State Cup Championship team.
"Kate is proof that with dedication, hard work, and focus that playing at the next level is possible," club coach Scotty Keena added. "She has been a fantastic member of her CFJ Red Team for the past few years, she's a great player, and an even better person."
Off the field, Kate is an AP Scholar, member of National French Honor Society, and is ranked 18th in her graduating class of nearly 700. She is a member of the Symphonic and Marching Bands at HFHS and has taken part in service projects in Guatemala and the local Chicagoland area. Parents Pat and Anne Vendrely are both Goshen College alums, with Pat donning a Maple Leaf basketball and baseball uniform during his time on campus.
"Kate will be joining many other great talents coming in this fall season and with her skills and passion we are looking to take the program several steps ahead and become a competitive program inside the MCC and the NAIA," dos Santos continued. "The Vendrely family has been a great contributor to Goshen College Soccer and will continue for the years to come."
